Meet Brenda & Andy McDonell:
The Leaders of ICN New Zealand

In 2019, Brenda and Andy McDonell were proudly appointed as the President and Vice President, as well as the official promoters for ICN New Zealand. Together, they bring over 30 years of passion and experience to the bodybuilding community.

Brenda’s journey in the sport includes competing, judging, and volunteering, giving her a deep understanding of the dedication and effort it takes to excel in bodybuilding. As a steadfast and supportive partner to a competitive bodybuilder, Andy has played a vital role behind the scenes—a task that demands patience, commitment, and understanding.

Andy has also been an invaluable supporter to many within New Zealand’s bodybuilding scene. In 2019, he excelled as Team Manager at the ICN World Championships in Melbourne, demonstrating exceptional leadership and care for the athletes. While Andy hasn’t competed himself, his extensive involvement in competition preparations, posing practices, and bodybuilding events has given him unique insight into the joys and challenges of the sport.

Both Brenda and Andy are passionate advocates for drug-free bodybuilding. They are excited about the platform ICN Worldwide provides, offering natural competitors opportunities to shine locally and globally. They are dedicated to growing the ICN community in New Zealand and supporting natural athletes in reaching their full potential, whether it’s on home soil or competing internationally.

The Success of ICN New Zealand

At ICN New Zealand, our success is more than just the growing number of athletes gracing the stage; it’s the collective energy of a community united by passion, dedication, and a love for the sport of natural bodybuilding.

From the volunteers who ensure everything runs smoothly to the judges who dedicate their time and expertise to maintaining fairness and professionalism, every show is a testament to the incredible teamwork that fuels ICN. These individuals are the backbone of our success; without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Each competition brings something new and exciting, and the results speak for themselves. Athlete numbers continue to rise, with every show surpassing the last in participation, quality, and energy. This growth isn’t by chance—it’s the result of an organisation built on a foundation of care, camaraderie, and a family-like atmosphere that welcomes everyone with open arms.

ICN New Zealand isn’t just about competing; it’s about belonging. It’s about stepping into an environment where your hard work is celebrated, your potential is recognised, and your journey is supported every step of the way. Whether you’re an experienced competitor or someone who has only dreamed of stepping on stage, ICN is here to inspire, encourage, and empower you to take that next step.

Many athletes who compete with ICN describe the experience as life-changing—not just because of the competition, but because of the people they meet, the friendships they form, and the unwavering support they feel. We’re more than just a federation; we’re a family.

So, if you’ve ever wondered if you could do it, let us tell you—you can. Join us at ICN New Zealand, where success is shared, dreams are realised, and everyone has a place on the stage. Together, we’ll continue to grow, inspire, and elevate natural bodybuilding to new heights.

PRESIDENT ICN NZ

Brenda McDonell – A Lifelong Passion for Bodybuilding

Brenda’s journey in bodybuilding spans decades, showcasing her deep dedication and love for the sport. Since her first competition in 1989, she has worn many hats in the bodybuilding world—competitor, judge, and backstage and front-of-house volunteer for drug-tested and non-drug-tested federations.

After a decade of competing, Brenda stepped back in 1999 to focus on her growing family. However, her passion for the sport never wavered. In 2016, she made an inspiring return to competitive bodybuilding, representing New Zealand on both home soil and international stages for the next three years.

One of Brenda’s most remarkable achievements came at the prestigious Natural Olympia in Las Vegas, where she competed on three occasions. She won her division two years in a row and, in 2018, stepped onto the stage as a professional athlete, earning an impressive 3rd place in the Open Women’s Physique category.

That same year, Brenda retired from competitive bodybuilding, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, determination, and resilience. Her journey continues to inspire others in the bodybuilding community, proving that with passion and perseverance, incredible achievements are possible at any stage of life.
